Travel info
During the marathon weekend, Rotterdam is closed in many places. Participants and spectators are therefore advised to travel by public transport or bicycle. Central Station and the Beurs and Blaak metro stations are easily accessible and are close to the start and finish location.
Are you travelling by car? You can use the Kralingse Zoom, Slinge, and Alexander P+R sites, as well as the other P+R sites on the outskirts of the city. If you are driving into the city, please note that many roads are closed and it will be very busy.

Cheering along the course
The advice is to make a plan in advance at which points you will encourage the participants and to plan how you will move through the city as a spectator. When moving through the city, take into account extra waiting time in public transport. This year, waiting areas will be created at the busy metro stations (Beurs, Wilhelminaplein and Slinge) to allow for a gradual flow of passengers towards the platform. So take extra travel time into account, which is why we recommend limiting the number of different places you want to watch.
If you are travelling by bike, please note that many roads are closed and the route can only be crossed via tunnels and viaducts.
Crossing the course in the center?
To do this, use the underpasses in the city centre, such as: Koopgoot, Stadhuis metro station (no metro stops here, but you can use the underpass), Cube Houses and Blaak metro station.
– Bag drop-off at Schouwburgplein: Rotterdam Centraal
– To the start: Beurs metro station

– Bag drop-off at Schouwburgplein: Rotterdam Centraal
– To the start: Blaak station (train, metro and tram)

-The start at Churchillplein/Schiedamsedijk is NOT accessible to spectators, so please say goodbye to the runners earlier.
-Crossing the course: use the Koopgoot (under)pass, the Cube Houses, or Oostplein metro station.

Crossing the course in the center?
We would like to apologize in advance for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closures and thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
General closures:
- Coolsingel (Hofplein – Meent): Friday 10 a.m. to Sunday 11 p.m.
- Schiedamsedijk: Saturday 6 a.m. to Sunday 8 p.m
- Stadhuisstraat + Raamplein + Doelwater: Saturday 06:00 to Sunday 23:00
- Burgemeester van Walsumweg: zondag 05.00 uur t/m 17.00 uur
The Wilhelminakade remains accessible, traffic is allowed in two directions in the Otto Reuchlinweg via the Posthumalaan. Are you travelling by car anyway? Then the advice is: if you enter the city from the west, then exit in the west. If you come from the east, exit via the east.
If you are travelling by bike, please note that many roads are closed and the route can only be crossed via tunnels and viaducts.
Click here for an overview of the road closures.
We advise all participants and spectators to travel by public transport as much as possible. If you know people in your area who are also participating or are going to Rotterdam, try to ride together. It is cozier, saves costs and is environmentally friendly. Some parking garages in and around the start and finish location are not accessible or are only accessible to a limited extent around the NN Marathon Rotterdam.
An alternative is to park at one of the P+R locations on the edge of the city and travel further by public transport. Please note: In some P+R areas you can only park for free if you continue your journey by public transport. At a number of P+R sites, you can only park for free if you continue your journey by public transport with an OV-chipkaart or a RET day ticket with a chip (purchased from the machine or the driver). On the P+R sites page, you can read which ones these are and how it works.

OVpay
Buying a ticket in advance is not necessary. OVpay is the new way to check in and out of public transport in the Netherlands. At RET, too, you can easily check in and out using your contactless debit card, credit card, or mobile phone. You do not need to activate anything for this. You can travel this way immediately. The costs for your public transport journey are debited from your account at the end of the day. Read everything about OVpay.
Advice for runners
As a marathon runner, it is best to get off at Beurs metro station to travel to the start on the Schiedamsedijk. As a 1/4 marathon runner, it is best to get off at Blaak metro station to go to the start at the Burg. van Walsumweg. In case of cancellation during the marathon, you can travel for free with the RET to the finish location/changing facilities (metro station Rotterdam Central) upon presentation of your bib number.
Advice for spectators
As a spectator, it is best to get off at Wilhelminaplein metro station for the start of the NN Marathon Rotterdam. Would you like to go to the start of the 1/4 Marathon Rotterdam as a spectator? Then it is best to get off at Blaak metro station.
Rotterdam Central Station and Rotterdam Blaak are within walking distance of the Marathon Sport Expo and the start and finish on the Coolsingel. Participants and visitors can travel to these stations by train on Sunday. Due to the NN Marathon Rotterdam, take into account extra crowds on the train. The NS Supporter van Bewegen team is ready at the station to welcome and encourage everyone.
Prepare yourself From 10 days before departure and again shortly in advance, consult the Travel Planner in the NS app or on ns.nl for up-to-date tailor-made travel advice. Buy online your ticket. If you travel with an OV-Chipkaart, load sufficient balance on your card in advance, also for the return journey. This way you avoid long waits at the ticket machines.
